How are we supposed to keep our children young and innocent?
It's natural for our children to grow up and move on from one stage to another (crawling to walking, preschool to school, highschool to graduation), and we as
parents are excited but a little sad as well. Yes, we want our children to grow up and become confident individuals,
but do you find yourself thinking back to when they were younger and things just seemed easier? When we didn't have to fight for their attention, when they were content with a cardboard box and not begging for your IPhone?! When they didn't talk back to you, when you weren't appalled by what just came out of their mouth? That same cute little mouth you used to only hear little baby babbles from!
I think those mixed feelings are
normal for all of us. We can't
stop their physical growth, but we can effect their emotional and social
growth.
It seems like our society is compressing childhood more and more and its starting to feel like children aren't children for very long. Have you wandered through the girl's clothing section recently? Some of the clothes are not age appropriate and it makes raising young girls and young boys even harder nowadays than when we were younger! As parents, we feel like we are fighting against a raging river to keep our children young and innoncent.
This month, we are going to have a chance to discuss with other Moms some ideas/tips on how to help keep our children young and innocent in a society that is pushing them to grow up faster and faster. Please come with some thoughts and feel free to share with us!
